What You Can Expect as Your Senior Ages
As your loved one gets older, there are some things that you can expect. Every person is different as they age, but there are some common things that everyone can foresee happening. The more you know about your loved one aging, the better things can be for you and for them.

Harder Working Heart

One of the things that you can expect as your elderly loved one ages is that their heart is going to be working harder. The arteries stiffen up as someone gets older. This means the arteries can’t pump the blood through the body as they did before. If you want to help your loved one to prevent this from happening, you can keep them active. You or their elderly care providers can take them on a walk or go swimming with them.

Changes in Their Hearing or Vision

As your loved one gets older, they are going to have changes in their hearing and their vision, as well. Sometimes this is due to degenerative conditions and other times it is due to noisy environments. Either way, you should make sure that your elderly loved one continues to see their doctor on a regular schedule. Their doctor can keep track of their hearing and vision to see if they need any hearing devices or glasses to help them out.

Loss of Bone Density

As someone gets older, they might experience a loss of bone density, too. This is natural, but things like carrying around extra weight can make it worse. If you want to help your elderly loved one to prevent this, you can ensure they are taking in enough calcium and that they are doing weightlifting activities, as well. You or their elderly care providers can take them to the gym to do light weightlifting or you can do this in their own home.

Digestive Problems

Your elderly loved one might experience digestive problems, too. Constipation is one of the most common problems among elderly adults. You can prevent this from happening with your elderly loved one by making sure they are getting more fiber in their diet. Regular exercise and drinking more water can help to prevent digestive issues, as well.

These are some of the things you can expect with your loved one as they age. However, as you have read, there are some things you can do to help your loved one prevent these issues. While you might not be able to stop these issues forever, you can prevent them in the meantime. Get working with your loved one on keeping them healthier for as long as possible.
