How to Balance Work and Caregiving
Senior Care in East Millcreek UT

There's more to your life than just being a caregiver, but how can you fit something like a career into your life when you're so busy taking care of your loved one? There are a lot of things you can do that can make this tightrope walk easier on yourself and on those that you love.

Learn Your Company's Policies

Make sure that you completely understand your company's policies regarding family care and leave, because you never know when you'll need some time off. Read your company's handbook and make an appointment with your company's human resources department. They can help you to find benefits programs that your company might offer access to. They may even have some resources that you'll be glad you found.

Get Some Extra Help

Whether it's other family members, friends, or senior care providers, you're going to need all of the help that you can get. Make sure that you understand what you need and who can help you. The more specific you can be about the help that you need the better. If it helps, make a list so you can refer to it later. You can also jot down the names of people who may be able to help you with specific tasks.

Keep Yourself as Organized as Possible

Disorganization can really hurt you when you need to balance your caregiving duties with your job. If you use a planner on your smartphone, make sure that you keep it updated. If paper planners are more your thing, find the right system for you. You might find yourself using a combination of digital and paper planning as well as lists, alarms and reminders, and other organizational tools. Once you find the system that works for you, stick with it.

Keep Tabs on How You're Feeling

One area in which family caregivers often fall down is that they forget to factor themselves into the equation. They get exhausted, sick, or simply worn out and then they can't keep tabs on everything that they have to manage. If you ignore yourself, you're going to drop more than a few of the balls that you're juggling.

Balancing work and caregiving isn't always easy, but it can be done.
