How Can You Start Your Day as a Caregiver without Feeling Behind?

How Can You Start Your Day as a Caregiver without Feeling Behind?
Being a family caregiver can mean that you start out every day running and even feeling behind before your eyes are fully open. Try some of these ideas to reverse that problem.

Start the Night Before

A big tip for anyone looking to be more productive in the morning is to start the evening before. Get your clothes ready for the next day, set up anything that needs to be set up, and basically do a few favors for "future you." For example, you might set up the coffee maker the night before, which allows you to get your coffee that much faster in the morning. By doing all of this the night before, you're doing it when you're clear-headed and awake.

Consider Rituals that Might Help

Look at what you can do right after getting up that will help you to start your day properly. For example, if you thrive on the first cup of coffee, consider putting a coffee maker beside your bed so you can have the first cup right away. If you get your blood flowing with exercise, put together a yoga flow that you can do right after you get up that wakes up your muscles and gets you ready to go.

Get Dressed to Face the Day Before You Face the Day

If you're one of those folks who gets up and goes straight to the kitchen or wherever before getting ready for the day, consider changing that up. Instead, try showering and getting dressed before you do anything else at all. Then, when you leave your bedroom for the morning, you're already geared up for whatever is waiting for you.

Keep Your Bedroom Sacred

Most sleep experts recommend that you keep your bedroom limited to sleep, which is excellent advice. If you're keeping paperwork in your bedroom or you're reading about caregiving before bed, you might be subconsciously telling yourself this isn't your sanctuary. Make your bedroom a sacred place for yourself and your partner or spouse. That way when you're ready to relax and sleep, you have a sacred spot to do so.

Look at what seems to trip you up the most and get creative about finding solutions for those problems. When you can work around the problem, you can put it behind you for good.
